To whom it may concern,
I am writing to express my interest in your learning community in search of an English teaching position. I am graduating from Butler University as an English and Middle/Secondary Education double major. Even though the American Education system puts new teachers at a disadvantage, I am confident and excited for the opportunity to spend my life teaching. With an optimistic outlook and a drive to consistently better myself, I will create a student-centered classroom that encourages self-directed learning, and the development of critical literacy skills.
My time at Butler University has encouraged me to make the best of whatever educational situation is presented and to be a life-long, self-directed learner. Through my Education and English courses as well as a variety of student clubs and activities, I have formed an educational philosophy that will consistently meet the needs of your students and your learning community alike. Some highlights of these experiences follow:
-In College Mentors For Kids I worked with many underprivileged children between the ages of 8 and 12. Our weekly meetings gave the students an opportunity to learn about college and to meet positive role models. All the activities were focused on the students and developing their social, academic, and artistic skills. This program really opened my eyes to the real social issues that exist today and instilled a motivation to help all people.
-At Shortridge High school I got the opportunity to tutor an individual student for an entire semester. In this time, we focused on developing his literacy skills and I got the chance to write and carry out lesson plans. Throughout the course of the semester, I refined my ability to create interesting and engaging activities.
In addition to the credentials listed here, my resume also highlights the experiences in my life that have turned me into the kind of person that would add a lot to your learning community. I would really appreciate the opportunity to meet in person. Please contact me at [email protected] or (630) 849-3276. Thanks for your consideration.
